Show off your paper-folding skills and creative spirit in our first-ever Paper Airplane Contest at the Holyoke Paper Festival. Whether you’re an origami engineer or just in it for the fun, this high-flying challenge is your chance to soar to victory—on wings made entirely of paper!

This friendly competition celebrates creativity, design, and the joy of flight—with distance flown as the deciding factor. Bring your best design, test your toss, and aim for the win!

1st Place: One-Year Maker Membership to The Print Shop in Holyoke ($225 value!)

Contest Guidelines

1. Build It Yourself!
Airplanes must be folded by the contestant, using a single sheet of paper. No cutting, gluing, taping, or adding weights. Creativity in folds and design is highly encouraged!

2. Paper Provided
We’ll supply 8.5″ x 11″ paper at the contest station. All participants must use our paper to keep things fair.

3. One Heat, One Do-Over
Each contestant gets one official throw, with the option for one do-over (a second and final throw). The longest distance flown between the two will be your score.

4. Judged by Distance
Airplanes will be measured from the launch line to the spot where they first touch the ground. Straightest and farthest flight wins!

5. All Ages Welcome
Kids, teens, and adults—everyone can join! Parents may assist younger children with folding.

6. No Outside Aircraft
Pre-folded planes from home or pre-engineered trick flyers aren’t allowed—let’s keep the skies fair and fun.

Bonus Points (Just for Fun!)

While the winners are chosen by distance, we’ll be celebrating style, creativity, and ingenuity with honorable mentions and shout-outs. Think wild wings, precision folds, or unique themes—if it flies and dazzles, we’ll notice!
